I think it’s safe to say that most of us get freaked out by any appearance of warts, moles or skin tags, irrespective of whether it’s on your face, hands, feet, neck, etc. I’m assuming you too find these skin diseases embarrassing to say the least, and getting rid of them can become an all consuming exercise! Here’s a closer look at some of the treatments generally used for the removal of warts:

Over the counter drugs

Some of the home remedies for warts include various types of over the counter wart removal medication that can help you treat your warts. These come in many forms such as lotions, creams, patches and drugs. Please keep in mind that the acidic composition of some of the medications can however destroy your healthy skin. Treating warts with over the counter medications may take several weeks or even months before they take effect, which may also involve a lot of commitment from your side in diligently adhering to the application of the treatment as prescribed.

Salicycic acid is an over the counter cure for warts widely used in the treatment of many types of growths. The growth is irritated by the salicylic acid which causes the immune system to get rid of the outer layer of the skin and so of the growth itself. It needs to be administered for many weeks or months before you’ll see some result, and may also irritate or scar your healthy skin. Carefully read the instructions before using this medication; better still, consult your physician.

Duct tape method consists of using duct tape and a pumice stone to irritate the growth. It is hoped that the irritation will cause the immune system to get rid of the wart. Scarring could however be a consequence of using this particular method to get rid of warts.

It may be wise to consider professional help once you’ve suffered repeated setbacks after using over the counter wart removal treatments.

Surgical treatment and professional help

Your physician may prescribe powerful drugs that can help you cure your warts. Alternatively, you could also consider surgery as a wart removal method. All of the treatments discussed below must be performed by a professional physician. These surgical methods means anesthetic might be administered, and scarring could occur as a result of any of these methods. The basic 3 types of surgery that can be used are:

Cryosurgery involves the use of an instrument which has a very low temperature to freeze your wart. Cryosurgery is used to treat most types of warts.

-Electrosurgery is touching the wart with a needle heated by an electric current which kills the cells of the wart.

-Laser therapy makes use of a high-energy beam of light to burn the wart.

Alternative and home treatments for warts

Alternative and home treatments for removing warts may also be used. These methods have been used for many years, and may include the use of vinegar, garlic and other ingredients.

In conclusion

Consider this: scarring is a real threat with any method used to get rid of warts. While a scar under your foot is hardly visible, it is a very different story if you have a scar or scars on your face. A scar on your face has a very negative aspect which makes it necessary to familiarize yourself with each wart removal method and its side effects.  When in doubt, seek a second opinion. Do not leave anything to chance!

On a lighter side…NOT recommended for getting rid of a wart though…

“Man Removes Wart With Shotgun, Blows Off Finger

At least he wasn’t trying to remove a genital wart. Sean Murphy is a 38-year-old security guard from South Yorkshire, England. He had been plagued by a painful wart on the middle finger of his left hand for nearly five years. One night not long ago, he drank a bunch of beer and aimed a 12-bore Beretta shotgun at the wart. Surprising no one except for Mr. Murphy himself, he blew off the entire top of his finger.”
